"Home of the world's worst weather"
Mount Washington is the highest point in the U.S. east of the Mississippi River and north of the Carolinas. It is also the place where a wind gust of 231 miles per hour (372 kilometers per hour) was recorded in an April storm in 1934. This wind speed still stands as the all-time surface wind speed record.
