This was a man-made lake and water recreation area for the residents of nearby El Paso named, 'Mountain Shadow Lakes'. It was in business from 1988 to 2005. The lake is now dry. Abandoned buildings and the parking lot can be seen on the south side of the lake. On the north side of the lake you can see the abandoned pump house and discarded kayaks and tubes.

I lived in El Paso mid-70s thru early 80s and remember a mountain range East of Horizon City. Near the mountain range , there was a bone-dry lake carved out of the sand and, if standing atop one of the desert hills, you could see that there were streets mapped out in the sand, as well. Seems likely that this was what was to become Shadow Mountain Lake. If so, it's not at all suprising that it's dried up, abandoned.

I moved to El Paso in 1988 through 2001 I got to see Stevie Ray Vaughn in May 29, 1989 at Mountain Shadow Lake. It was a blast to hang out there and see such a celebrated blues guitarist. I was 21 years old and it was great. We would go hang out there on weekends with friends and family. Those were good times.

I was stationed in Fort Bliss at GAFADS in 1990 and 1991. Mountain Shadow Lake was fantastic. Sad to hear that it´s dry and abandoned.
