The modern Pennsylvania Turnpike crosses over the top of Sideling Hill, which contains at its base the 6,782 foot long Sideling Hill Tunnel, which was used by traffic between 1940 until 1968. It is now owned by the South Allegheny Regional Council, which has the intention of turning it into a bike/pedestrian trail.
