Dante stands in this beautiful square - the Piazza dei Signori. Dante came to Verona immediately after his exile, and returned in 1316, as a guest of Cangrande della Scala. The monument was erected in 1865, on the six hundredth anniversary of the poet's death. In this square is the beautiful Loggia del Consiglio, built between 1476 and 1493.
