Hjejlen was inaugurated June 24th. 1861 in the presence of King Frederik VII, after it had been sailed from Baumgarten & Burmeister Machine Building (later Burmeister & Wain) on June 11th. through Elsinore and Randers through Gudenåen to its destination Silkeborg on June 15th.

Today the ship celebrated it's 150th birthday. Among the guests were Quen Margrethe II of Denmark.
