Salomon Melgen is a prominent eye doctor who co-founded Seisint, a data company that was purchased by LexisNexis for $775 million in 2004. Seisint created a data-mining tool that it said could help law enforcement track down terrorists.
In 2017, Melgen was convicted of 67 charges of health care fraud revolving around the accusations that Melgen treated a number of elderly patients for eye diseases they didn't have, fraudulently billing Medicare and other insurers for over $73M. He is currently serving a 17 year federal prison sentence.
It is rumored that Melgen will be included in the roughly 100 pardons that Donald Trump will issue on his final day as president.
