Stonyhurst College is the leading English Jesuit public school near Clitheroe, Lancashire, England. The college was founded at St.Omer, France, in 1592 for English boys, unable to receive a Catholic education in Elizabethan England. In 1794, after several changes of location, the college settled at Stonyhurst Hall given to the school by Thomas Weld. The main building is after subsequent expansion one of the largest buildings under one roof in Europe.
