The Southeast corner of Sunset Blvd. and Gower St. was the site where a man named Al Christie built Hollywood's first movie Studio in 1911.

In 1921 it became part of Columbia Pictures' new 17 acre lot. Columbia moved away in 1972 and the site is now occupied by Sunset-Gower Studios which rents out its many sound stages to various television and movie productions.
