The operation Crossroads is not a directly "war operation" but nuclear weapon tests are military tests (operations). (??)

I do believe kjfitz specified that these ships had to be sunk by an enemy attack

"Operation Crossroads" qualifies this as a legitimate military operation during which the ship was sunk.

Should be noted that she accompanied the Bismark on the famous sortie into the Atlantic, and probably hit the Hood with her 8" guns.

Been there. Dove the ship. remaining screw above water, other removed and shipped to Germany. PE was used in the Bikini Atoll atomic tests. A USN skeleton crew got onboard when the wizeguys said it was ok. WWII buddy, cruiser sailor, was on the 'prize' crew as they 'safely' sailed it to Kwaj, ultimate dest., scrapyard. A typhoon hit the atoll, the ship broke anchor, drifted and turned turtle on the other side of the lagoon. The stern remains ASL and the bow is buried at about 183'. 30yo memories of an old serviceman who read all the stories and tried to go see them 50 yrs later (1995 or so). If you love remote island destinations, Kwaj, Wake, Midway, all good/VG but Truk is fun, loads of wrecks and too Freaking Touristy now, I hear. fwiw.
