The Roxie Theater

The Roxie Theater

Los Angeles, California (CA), US
Built on the site of Quinn’s Superba Theater, this was the last theater to be built on S. Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. It opened November 25, 1931. It is built in the Art Deco syle, and although the main theater area is in tact, the front is occupied by retail establishments. Throughout the 1970's and 1980's, the Roxy ran mostly as a Spanish-language house. Built for movies, the theater was equipped with a small stage, fly space, and full rigging, making it one of the last film houses constructed in Los Angeles with a full working stage. The Roxie Theater was the last movie house built on Broadway.
