This is an obelisk-shaped building on the National Mall built to commemorate George Washington, a Founding Father of the nation, commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War, and the first President of the USA. Standing E of the Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial, the monument, made of marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss, is both the world's tallest predominantly stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk, at 169.046 m tall. It's the tallest monumental column in the world by height above pedestrian entrances. It was the world's tallest structure between 1884 and 1889.

can anyone tell what time of day this was taken? from what i can tell it is definitely after 10am and probably before 2pm, sometime between march and Aug or Sept.

just out of curiousity... how would anyone other than the people who extract the pictures from the satellite know that for sure? your guess is as good as anyone else's

If you cared to, knowing the height of the monument, the length of the shadow, and the direction of the shadow (all known values or easy to extract from the image) one could approximate the time of day and maybe the date from the exact height and angle of the sun.
