Measuring about 3200 square meters, this ice rink was created in 2008 in the Zócalo plaza in Mexico City.
A claim for the new world's largest rink coming from Kazakhstan has a hitch. In preparation of the 2011 Asian Winter Games, a 10,500 square meter "rink" consisting of a 400m speed skating oval and two hockey rinks was built in 2010. Similar venues have existed (i.e. Pettit National Ice Center
) without claiming to having the world's largest rink.
Other natural "rinks" often make the claim as the world's largest, such as the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, which is a popular skating venue while the water is frozen.
