There were dozens of aftershocks throughout the rest of the week.

It was the strongest earthquake to affect New Jersey since the 5.3 Mfa 1783 New Jersey earthquake, and the strongest to hit NYC since an estimated 5.0 magnitude earthquake on 8/10/1884.
