Lots Road power station, in west London, is known locally as the "Chelsea Monster"! The power station, that has been fired by coal, then oil and gas, is now disused but its purpose was to supply power to the London Underground system. The power station, commissioned in 1905, is adjacent to the River Thames enabling fuel to be delivered by river traffic. The power station closed down in October 2002.
