The large island of Magerøya lies north of the Porsanger Peninsula in the Barents Sea. Administratively it is in Nordkapp Municipality, Troms og Finnmark county, in the far northern part of Norway.

The island has an area of 436.6 square kilometres (168.6 sq miles). Its highest point is mountain Gråkallfjellet with an elevation of 417m (1,368 ft) .

At Knivskjellodden is the most northerly point in Norway aside from Svalbard.

The island has a predominantly tundra-covered landscape which is devoid of trees save for a few small pockets of mountain birch and has a bleak and barren appearance. The coastline is mainly steep cliffs and the interior is mountainous.
