Hello there!
What about a Network-Integration to GoogleEarth: You can add a Network link to GoogleEarth linking to an Internet-Adress delivering a KML-File. This Link is opened by GoogleEarth when loaded and reloads it as configured on a time based intervall.
Globetrotting could provide a link generating a KML having the latest 50 submissions in it.
Geobloggers is providing such a thing: http://geobloggers.blogspot.com/2005/06/network-link-killer-app-for-google.html
So when an user has opened GoogleEarth he will always be up-to-date with the latest spots submitted to Globetrotting.

So basically it's a different version of your RSS, that GoogleEarth understands.

This is an example of a KML setting up the Network link for GoogleEarth:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <kml xmlns="http://earth.google.com/kml/2.0"> <NetworkLink> <description>The most recent 50 Flickr Photos World Wide, updates every 30mins</description> <name>Newest Flickr</name> <Url> <href>http://www.geobloggers.com/makeXML.cfm?geLatest=true</href> <refreshMode>onInterval</refreshMode> <refreshInverval>1800</refreshInverval> </Url> </NetworkLink> </kml>

That is so cool! B-)
BTW: You can add a custom icon for the placemark in the KML. This shows in the tree on the left and on the globe instead of the default icon:
<Style> <IconStyle> <Icon> <href>http://photos1.flickr.com/2487137_4e4959f8a0_s.jpg</href> </Icon> </IconStyle> </Style>
Maybe it's possible to convert the 150x150 preview pics to 16x16 on-the-fly with some PHP tool?
Well, thanks anyways for your work on this site! Great stuff happenin'! B-)

Another cool thing would be to copy and paste a placemark out of GE into the submission form of Globetrotting. When pasting it it is written as plain XML in a textarea. The title and description could be read from the XML and the position could be converted to a Google-Maps-URL. Only thing you had to do is to create a thumbnail and enter an additional info URL, city, state and country. Would smooth things a bit between Globetrotting and GE.

It seems that the icons have to be 32x32. They are shown 16x16 in the tree, but with 32 pixels on the globe.

i think the current icons are okay! maybe add the preview as image to the description for google earth. when you click on the title you see the description without moving to the spot.
