I'm noticing more duplicates making it through the moderating. Probably because the names are different. I only know what I've submitted and I see three or four dpues there so I assume there are others in the database as well.
A tool for checking coordinates and looking for other maps within some distance would be very useful. It would be especially useful if, as part of the submission process, it tested the submission and then presented a list of the maps close to the submitted coordinates then and asked "do you still want to submit?"

There is already a duplicate check in the background going. It determines dupes by proximity to each other -- anything within a kilometer away is shown as a possible dupe.
Currently, I don't see any known sites that are very close to each other. Can you point out a pair or two so I can see what is wrong?
Thanks!

Here are three that immediately came to mind. If I find more I'll post them to this thread.

This one is debatable:

I think there are others. I notice the dupes of the Louvre and the Concorde have already been removed.
cheers,

Deleted one of the first and third pairs.
The second pair I was looking at this morning. One of them deals with the landing beach, the other deals with the remains of the artificial harbor. The actual map links show this difference in focus. Unfortuneately both thumbnails show peices of the harbor. I'm inclined to leave them, and change the beach thumbnail as soon as Nic gets that ability programmed.
The last is again focusing on different nearby items, so I would again leave it.
In general we welcome duplicate reports. Either one will get removed (the more recent one, generally), or I'll give an explanation of why I would rather not remove one.

Duplicates.
The newer one has the correct name.
