Two reasons why I think that GMaps (er, GLocal) links should still be provided for GEarth shots:
1. Low res is better than no res.
2. Google is continually adding better res to both tools. Just yesterday Google added all the GEarth hi-res imagery to GLocal. Now all those "GEarth Only" maps as of the day before yesterday are no longer GEarth-only.

We've removed all the Google Earth only flags on the existing maps. If Google Earth updates their imagery on GE without updating GL at the same time then "GE only" maps will return.
I don't thnk nic plans to remove the rest of the integration with GE. In fact he has a few new things up his sleave. Stay tuned boys and girls!
