I was checking for nearby maps when I got this error message:
Uh oh! An Error Occurred!
Error with the url: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&ll=52.708999,-1.779699&spn=0.029901,0.063429&t=h&om=1
The URL must have the latitude and longitude information encoded in it.
As you can see, the URL does have the ll info.

It is the maps.google.co.uk that it doesn't like.
Change the .co.uk to .com and it will work.
nic catches most of these but this may be a new domain name config for GM.

I thought all the international GMaps URLs were added a long time ago.
