Is there a way to tell the aprox. date a particular Google image was taken? What about Maps vs. Google Earth?

There used to be a PDF file on the GoogleEarth web site in the support section that listed the dates for each city. I just went and looked an it isn't there anymore. Some layers in GE have a year on them but I don't know of any reliable way of telling when a photo was taken without a bit of detective. Pdf : "Google Earth High Resolution Imagery Coverage (USA) As of August 9, 2005"
Only USA and More than a year old data... And I don't talk about the "Visual representation of our coverage" (http://earth.google.com/data.html) Totally obsolete.
On GoogleEarth, you can see the grids of the coverage with dates. (Digital globe coverage) But it's very difficult to select the good ones.
