Hi folks,
I'm changing the URL for Maps slightly. Previously, maps were linked to via their "map ID": http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/35256/
I've added an additional URL that maps can be found by: their "perma link", which is based on their title: http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/christopher-lloyds-house/
The perma link is generated by taking the title, lower casing it, and replacing all non-alpha-numeric characters with "-". The perma link is generated at the time of submission and will change if the title changes.
All links that go to the "map ID" URL are now 301 redirecting (HTTP permanently moved) to the perma link version. The new URLs look pretty cool and this should help with search engine optimization as well.
Collisions of perma links are avoided by appending "-[n]" to subsequent maps that have the same title, for example: http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/christopher-lloyds-house-1/
Not all internal links are updated to use the perma link version, but I will be doing that over the next few days.
Please let me know of any problems.

Are we still able to include a map thumbnail in a post as described in "How to post a blog entry to VGT" in the Blog Submissions forum?

Yep -- though I don't know if using the "perma link" will work. I'll need to make the map ID visible somewhere on the page. You can get it currently by looking at the URL for Neaby Maps/etc
