Bill France, Sr., the founder of NASCAR, opened this garage in 1935. He had just moved to the area from Washington, DC, to escape the Great Depression. Twelve years later, he organized a meeting of people involved in the sport of stock car racing to form NASCAR. This garage was a common gathering place for racers and mechanics in the early years of the sport.
Today, the building operates as a nightclub.
