In the 1980s, GE built this highly-automated factory on a plot of land in Lynn, not far from its aircraft engine factory in the same town. Touted as the next generation in manufacturing, the prototype robotic facility never took off, and is now an example of bad business investment. The factory has been largely abandoned and has been offered for sale as office space.

I remember seeing videos of robotic forklifts etc. at a Family Day at the main plant when I was a child. My grandfather was a quality control tester for jet engine parts at the Lynn plant for many years (Building 74). The GE is a major employer in town, though this has dwindled in recent years; most residents have or know someone close who has worked at the plant.
