In the 1980s, GE built this highly-automated factory on a plot of land in Lynn, not far from its aircraft engine factory in the same town. Touted as the next generation in manufacturing, the prototype robotic facility never took off, and is now an example of bad business investment. The factory has been largely abandoned and has been offered for sale as office space.
