Born Jerome Silberman on June 11, 1933 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Wilder would change his name in at age 26 and make his go at the big time. Wilder would work odd jobs in New York until his big break with The Producers, after he and Mel Brooks hit it off. Wilder married beloved starlette the eternally lovable Gilda Radner known for her Saturday Night Live fame. Wilder was devastated when she died of ovarian cancer in 1989. In his twilight years, Wilder became a novelist, writing a memoir and several serious novels. Gene Wilder died on August 29, 2016 at the age of 83.
