Turku central prison and Turku provincial prison. The nickname “Kakola” is known by the public. Kakola has a reputation as Finland's toughest correction facilities and has been the home of many notorious criminals.
In the coming years, the Kakolanmäki area will develop into an active element of the City of Turku. The prison operations will end in 2007, and the area will be converted into a lively district for inhabitants, businesses and organisations.
