The HD generation of the Mazda 929 was the first as a rebadged Mazda Sentia, a full-size luxury car. These 929s exclusively came with V6 engines and Canadian models were known as the "929 Serenia". However, it was pulled out of the North American market in 1995 as luxury vehicles from manufacturers that don't specialize in the segment were met with little to no interest. However, this didn't stop Volkswagen to import the 1st-generaton Phaeton until 2006, citing the same reason.
