Washington College

Washington College, founded in 1782, is the 10th oldest college in America, the oldest college in Maryland, and the first college founded after American independence.

George Washington supported the founding of Washington College by consenting to have the 'College at Chester' named in his honor, through his generous financial support of "fifty guineas," and through service on the College's Board of Visitors and Governors.
