Great find!!! The Bing Image seems a little bit sharper, doesn't appear to be your typical Army base. The site is located in the region of the ICBM 816TH BDE/ 51st BASE, I would say it's probably some-kind of ICBM support site. There's quite a few ICBM sites to the north east of this site and HQ for the 816th is located near by.
Article in Jane's Defense Weekly 1 Jan 2014, shows that this airfield is in use for carrier training. There's 2 ski jumps for take off practice and 2 locations with arresting wires for carrier landings.
There is what looks like a cement plant and the image you posted looks like an aggregate field for the cement production. Jane's Weekly was convinced 100% either that is was a new missile site, it is interesting to see the next images. I have a couple of other locations that I have spotted that could be missile/nuclear/military related that are in building phase. It is really hard to tell, need more images.
I think it is the pollution, also depending of the time of year, farmers burn all the fields, makes for lots of haze. Noticed that too, lots of China imagery looks "dirty".
" Rattled by the rash of drone crashes, the Djiboutian government asked the Pentagon to move its unmanned aircraft away from the city to a rarely used airstrip in the desert, Chabelley Airfield, according to the unclassified documents, which were obtained by The Washington Post as part of a public records request.
In a letter to Congress in February, the Pentagon asked for urgent authorization of $13 million in funds and equipment to build “minimal facilities necessary to...
Just checked out HAARP for the first time. Yeah, kind of similar but it is different. Need to go back and checked the size.
Hmm, the Chinese array measures a bit smaller than HAARP but still quite large. I didn't know that HAARP imagery was censored. Some of the array is visible but the norther part is censored.
Interesting, just measured Chinese array north of this one and it is bigger, probably same size as HAARP.
It just seems a bit odd to me to put it so close to a bombing range. Also seems very similar to the one north of it at another bombing/testing range. Could it have something to do with the range? I was thinking more along the lines of EMP testing or anti GPS stuff....
I am guessing that was an older image when the hangar was being built. Also the cross looking runway was being laid down. Check out the stuff to the left of the steel frames. The blue and white "buildings", some kind of weird lay out and looks like a formation of 10 trucks? in the GE and even GM imagery, it seems like they have all been "taken" out. Pretty cool.
Yeah, I saw that one, it appears to have been built early 2010 and blown up later in the year, it is damaged in the 8/19/2010 image.Hasn't been repaired since. I was getting tired last night and didn't include it! I thought the odd steel frame structures next to it were more interesting. They haven't been bombed yet or maybe they are something else than target practice, I don't know.
Not only you can't see in in Google Maps but I noticed on Google Earth, it was displaying the 2011 imagery even thought there was more updated imagery, not sure why.
This is really pissing me off!!!! News outlets and especially those bastards at Google Earth have stopped putting out new satellite imagery of the planet for the last 2 months and pretty much more than 1 year for Syria so there is no way for people like us to spend time looking at battle damage and try to report to military/Intel sites where we could spread the word and images!!!!! I AM SO MAD RIGHT NOW!!!!!
There appears to be another on undergoing some heavy maintenance, it looks like the rear has been removed to swap engines, I am assuming...Also, in the most recent GE pictures, there is now a line up of 5 AWACS.
From what as been said so far, it would appear that the cargo shifted in the bay and 747 entered a spin at such low speed/low altitude/ Cg gone to hell, no way the pilots could regain control...
Most probable. From what I know, AN-2 was considered to be the Soviet/Russian equivalent of the Cessna 170, so most likely it is a training center. Although, North Korea has over 100,000 special forces troops so it could have a secondary role as in incursion operations center, kind of far from DMZ but you never know.

Do you have a picture of what they look like from the ground? I have seen the other types of concrete blocks that can be dropped to form obstacles but these look like speed bumps when viewed from above.
Was this a separate attack? Or was this part of the same package strike that took out a SAM convoy? It is a bit confusing since no one really is giving details and just not sure if it was separate attack or just trying to confuse/muddy the water....
For sure it's a mess, rumor is terrorists might still have some hostages, I guess, they moved them somewhere else. Looks also like Algerian forces went in with guns blazing.....
My inclination would be to say it's civilian. Doesn't appear to be any type of fencing, guards, gates, etc that would denote a military base. There's a military base about 15 kl SE of the mystery location, Chinese could easily expand that base...
As far as I can tell, this is the one gas station in Barzeh al-Balad district with 4 small concrete posts and metallic bars like the ones in the picture. I found what looks like a car garage and another gas station but they didn't have the fence.
The US site seems bigger, although there is another site just north that also is censored. These 3 sites could be of similar use to the US counter part.
Look just to the dirt lot next to the cleaned up "hangars" or buildings and you see about 100 tanks/IFVs that more than likely were under there. Some of them seemed to be damaged but it is possible that some can be repaired or cannibalized for parts.
I don't know for sure if this is the same mosque but it seems like it. Apparently it was destroyed by the rebels, without going into religion/politics, I do find it disturbing that they seem to rejoice at destroying this mosque.

Niger has confirmed that French special forces are protecting one of the country's biggest uranium mines.
This article says that there was an attack on the depot, an attack(s) on a convoy(s) and maybe some other target.

I was there in August, they were still working on it, most of it is complete. It is huge!

I think the base serves as a regular flying base and storage.
