Can't we use another view of the place submitted for the thumbnails ?
Sometimes, a view from the groung is perhaps better.
The Val castle from above, and the same from another view :

Ultimately it's Nic's descision, but my opinion is no. Ths thumbnail is to give a sameple of what the object will look like when a person jumps over to Google Maps on the object. For that, then we do need a Google Maps (or, in very rare occasions Google Earth) generated thumbnail.
