you'll notice there are also certain high-res photos elsewhere, like Yongbyon North Korea (search for Yongbyon) or Bushehr, Iran (search for Bushehr). It's fun scanning at mid-zoom and looking for the rectangular discolorations, and zooming in to some random spot that turns out to be a nuke plant or something.
A lot of those pics are probably commissioned by media outlets... i doubt google would be getting satellite photos from the US or any other military.

Seems to me there's a homeland security opportunity here. With so many folks hiking by satellite through so many rogue nations, it seems the gov't could capitalize on the extra eyes looking for things they may have missed. Maybe they should open up more sensative imagery to the viewing public.
