The fastest accelerating American car and the pickup truck at the time of its release made possible from an emissions regulations loophole, its front fascia was changed for 1979, and also included a catalyst that reduced the net horsepower from 230 to 225, unleaded gas, and a federally mandated speedometer reading up to 85 mph. A Lil' Red Express truck coming with black paint known as the Midnight Express was also available for this model year.
