On 3/23/21 at 07:40 Eastern European Time, a 400 m long container ship, Ever Given, ran aground in the Suez Canal. The ship was buffeted by a sandstorm and blown by strong winds of up to 74 kph, causing it to be knocked off course. The vessel ran aground on one of the canal's banks and became stuck, completely obstructing the canal and preventing any vessels from passing through.
