2022 Aqaba Port Toxic Gas Leak

On the afternoon of Monday 27th June 2022 at The Port of Aqaba there was a leak of chlorine gas which caused the deaths of 13 people and injured a further 260.

The incident occurred when a crane which was loading a pressurised chemical storage container on to a ship in the port failed causing the container to fall on to the ship and rupture.

The gas quickly engulfed the ship and the quayside before dispersing through the rest of the port area.
