On Sunday 31st March 2024 at 09:08 UTC, Lothar DL3HXX, a radio amateur from Germany, made contact with Markus DL/IN3ADF/P, a radio amateur from Italy, who was operating from Ammergebirge (DLFF-0205), on the 40m amateur radio band.

Ammergebirge (DLFF-0205), is a protected area of 28,863.34 hectares in the state of Bavaria, lying south west of Munich in the south of Germany. It was designated as a Nature Reserve in 1986 and is an IUCN Management Category IV area.

An IUCN Management Category IV area is an area to protect particular species or habitats and are managed to prioritise this objective.

Markus was at the summit of Schafkopf (1380 metres asl) while he was at the reserve and made a total of 53 contacts for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
