The Seaside Park at Areia Preta is located near the most populated area of Macau. The park occupies an area of 20,000 square metres. The park is a project of architect Francisco Caldeira Cabral and was inaugurated on March 14th, 1999.
The park was unplanned, but naturally developed after the completion of Avenida da Ponte da Amizade, which provides better access between the Chinese border gate and Macau Airport. After becoming a popular spot, the Macau city government added grass and seating areas.
On the rotary adjacent to the park, there is a monument by artist Jose Rodrigues, entitled Pearl, named after the Pearl River which the park overlooks.
