The reserve sits in a depression, formed by a stream flowing through the glacial moraine, where meadows, bogs and thickets of trees can be found.

The deciduous trees and bushes of the area were the reason for its protection and conservation along with the evidence of the former coastline which are present.

The taller trees in the reserve have grown since protection began in 1995 and the multi-crowned trees and fallen trunks show the damage inflicted through the centuries mainly from cattle grazing.
