The Blue Front Café dates back to 1948 when owners Carey and Mary Holmes offered cotton workers a place to gather to unwind. The cafe served food, drink and blues to the workers during the difficult segregation era. Although nobody was ever officially booked at the establishment, a flurry of impromptu performances occurred.
