On 13th May 2023 an Indonesian radio amateur on the northeast outskirts of Bandung City, West Java Indonesia made contact via the Qatar-OSCAR 100 satellite transponder with a large number of radio amateurs located in Europe.
The Indonesian radio amateur was using a special callsign ‘8A100K’ to commemorate the centenary of the first radio communication between Indonesia and The Netherlands on 5th May 1923.
The transponder has an uplink on 2.4GHz and a downlink on 100GHz and was a joint project between the Qatar Satellite Company, Qatar ARS and AMSAT (Deutschland). It is on board the Es-hail-2 satellite which was launched in 2018. The satellite is in geo-stationary orbit above the equator at 26 degrees East.
Due to the large number of radio amateurs wanting to contact the special event station they were working split frequency.
Bandung is the capital City of the Indonesian province of West Java it is one the country’s largest cities in terms of population.
The Indonesian radio amateur gave his QRA locator as OI33UC.
