C7A – The World Metrological Organization (WMO) (JN88EF)

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has allocated the Call Sign Series C7A – C7Z to the World Metrological Organisation (WMO) another specialised agency of the United Nations concerned with weather, climate, operational hydrology and related geophysical sciences.

The United Nations Amateur Radio Contest DX Club (“ARCDXC UN”) whose operating room is within The Vienna International Centre has been issued with several amateur radio callsigns including 4U1A and C7A.

At 10:44UTC on 20th May 2023 a radio amateur in the ARCDXC UN operating room in Vienna, Austria and made contact via the Qatar-OSCAR 100 satellite transponder with Dov 4X1KP in Israel.

The transponder has an uplink on 2.4GHz and a downlink on 100GHz and was a joint project between the Qatar Satellite Company, Qatar ARS and AMSAT (Deutschland). It is on board the Es-hail-2 satellite which was launched in 2018. The satellite is in geo-stationary orbit above the equator at 26 degrees East.

Following the contact with Dov the ARCDXC UN station went on to make a large number of other radio amateur radio station on both sides of the Atlantic.
