Chiesa dell'Assunta

Trevignano Romano, Italy (IT)
In English, The Church of the Assumption.

This 16th century structure was built on the ruins of an earlier Gothic building. It contains a splendid fresco depicting the "Dormizione" (death) of the Virgin, 1517, attributed to the painter Pellegrino da Modena. Moreover, there is a tryptic (Jesus on the Throne, the Madonna and St.John) which is the oldest reproduction (XII century) of the acheropita image (not painted by human hand) kept in Rome in the Sancta Sactorum in San Giovanni in Laterano Square.
