On Friday 29th March 2024 at 12:07 UTC, Fred DL8DXL, a radio amateur from Germany, made contact with Marcin OK/SQ9ITA/P, a radio amateur from Poland, who was operating from CHKO Jeseniky (OKFF-0023), on the 40m amateur radio band.
CHKO Jeseniky (OKFF-0023),is a protected area of 74,370 hectares lying north-west of Ostrava in the east of the Czech Republic. It was designated in 1969 as a Protected Landscape Area and is an IUCN Management Category V area.
An IUCN Management Category V area is a lived-in working landscape, where the interaction of people with the natural landscape has resulted in a landscape with significant biological, ecological and scenic value.
Marcin was at the summit of Medvědí vrch (1,216 metres asl) while he was at the reserve and made a total of 54 contacts for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
