Cucumber harvesters at work

Lübben, Germany (DE)
In Germany, especially in the area of the Spreewald, you see these cucumber harvesters, the so called Gurkenengeln (cucumber angels).

They contain one platform on each side of the tractor where normally 2x12 people are laying on mattresses and picking them from the plants and drop them into a conveyor belt system and onto a waggon. They harvest 1 meter a minute.

The people that do the harvest are mainly from Eastern Europe. The farmers have problems in finding Germans who want to do the job.
