Don Blankenship is the former Chairman and CEO of the Massey Energy Company who was convicted of conspiracy to violate mandatory federal mine safety and health standards, conspiracy to impede federal mine safety officials, making false statements to the Securities and Exchange Commission, and securities fraud, following the 2010 Upper Big Branch Mine disaster, where 29 workers were killed when one of Blankenship's mines collapsed. Blankenship served 1 year in prison.

Blankenship is challenging Democratic Senator, Joe Manchin in the 2018 United States Senate election in West Virginia, despite primarily living here in Nevada. In his campaign, Blankenship has attacked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and McConnell's wife, Elaine Chao's "China family"
