This Tibetian Buddhist temple was restored following the 2011 Himalayan earthquake which caused extensive damage to the original. It was re-consecrated between 24 January and 5 February 2020.

The temple which is part of the Pemagatshel Monastery Complex is one of the most important monasteries in Bhutan.

Within the temple are 108 Buddhist paintings which portray the life of Buddha and three large statues at the altar depicting: Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal (the founder of the Bhutanese state), Gautama Buddha also known as the Lord Buddha and Guru Rinpoche who is one of the most revered Lama's in Bhutan.
