Electric Railway Sign

Electric Railway Sign

Douglas, United Kingdom (GB)
The ‘Electric Railway’ sign is on the cliff side overlooking the Manx Electric Railway depot at Darby Castle.

The sign was replaced in 2021 at a cost of £130,0000. The original was erected to mark the centenary of the MER in 1993 and was dismantled in 2020 for safety reasons as the supporting framework had been found to be badly corroded.

The erection of the replacement was delayed by restrictions in place during the coronavirus pandemic. It took two days and a large crane to lift the large white letters from the Darby Castle depot yard up to the supporting frame to which they were secured.
