Elizabeth Thorn, (12/28/1832 - 10/17/1907) was a caretaker of Evergreen Cemetery during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. She reportedly burred over 100 soldiers after the battle while six months pregnant.

The sculpture was created by Ron Tunison and dedicated in 2002.
