On Saturday 15th October 2022, Timothy, Donald K5DEZ and George KG5ISG and WB5USB, radio amateurs from the New Mexico reached the summit of Elk Mountain and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
They made 74 contacts in total working on the 2 metre VHF and the 40, 30, 20, 17, 15 and 10 metre HF amateur radio bands.
The summit of Elk Mountain is 3554 metres (11660 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
