Fairfield Hospial, originally known as Three Counties Asylum, was one of those incredibly vast Victorian mental asylums that can be found everywhere around British Isles. It was originally founded in Bedford in 1812 and moved to current site in 1860. The hospital became part of National Health Service in 1948 and was renamed Fairfield Hospital in 1960. Fairfield Hospital was closed in 1999 and the site was sold for housing redevelopment.
