First Lunar Mission Launch from New Zealand - June 2022


Wairoa, New Zealand (NZ)
At 21:55 local time on Tuesday 28th June 2022 an Electron Rocket blasted off form Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex on the Mahia Peninsula. The rockets pay load was NASA’s Capstone micro- satellite.

From Earth orbit a small Rocket Lab’s Photon spacecraft will carry the Capstone micro- satellite to the Moon and place it in an elliptical orbit above the lunar surface.

The launch is planned to be the first step in NASA’s Artemis programme which will see astronauts return to the Moon.
